400 Hz Alternators

Our 400 Hz alternators range is predominantly used in the aircraft ground support market. We are able to offer units for ground power supplies from small 5kVA 14 pole units through to large 200kVA 26 pole units.

The new series of 400 Hz alternators is the result of our long experience in this sector and of diligent studies and researches aiming to keep pace with the technological development of an era where technology is the winning card. The  series has been designed to meet the more technological requirements of applications such as telecommunications, cogeneration, army and aeronautics sectors.

All the 400 Hz alternators have a fixed inductor with skewed slots and a rotating inductor. The windings have a 2/3 pitch in order to reduce the harmonic content of voltage. The entire series of the alternators is manufactured according to and complies with the most common specifications such as CEI 2-3, IEC 34-1, EN 60034-1, VDE 0530, BS 4999-5000, BS 2G 219, ISO 6858, MIL-STD-704F.

The UVR6-H400B regulator is an advanced compact electronic regulator used for 400 Hz alternators.
This regulator is equipped with low speed and overload protection with an adjustable intervention threshold, it has adjustable voltage stability and offers the possibility for a remote voltage regulation with three phase sensing capability.

The role of 400Hz generators in aircraft ground operations

 

All aircraft have an onboard electrical system consisting of power generators, distributors and converters. The frequency of the three-phase current generated onboard is 400 Hz which is 8 times higher than in our sockets. A 400Hz generator is a specialised electrical system designed to provide power to aircraft during ground operations.

This higher frequency allows for lighter and more compact electrical components in aircraft, as well as more efficient power transmission. An aviation generator, the frequency of which is 8 times higher than the industrial frequency, weighs 15 times less than a similar power industrial generator.

Of course, the current generated onboard the aircraft at a frequency of 400 Hz is almost immediately sent to converters and rectifiers, which change its parameters and rectify it for the needs of specific consuming devices. In other words, such a high frequency, by "earthly" standards, is needed only to make aviation generators as small as possible. Because for aircraft, weight is a critically important parameter that affects their technical and economic efficiency.

Overall, 400Hz generators play a crucial role in providing reliable and high-quality power to aircraft during ground operations, ensuring that essential systems remain operational and aircraft can safely and efficiently carry out their missions.
